The Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Sciences Society (formerly The Parenteral Society) is a professional organisation formed in 1981, for those whose experience and resources are directed towards the research, development, manufacture and control of Pharmaceutical and Healthcare products.  A few committed individuals organised the Inaugural Meeting of the Society in Bath in March 1982. The meeting incorporated a Course on the Quality Assurance of Sterile Products and was over subscribed.

The Society was formally constituted in September of that year.

The Society draws its' strength from the diversity of it's membership and the openness of it's organisation, and encourages the sharing and presentation of ideas for the common benefit of all.

It has to be recognised that the pharmaceutical and medical device industries have changed dramatically over the past 26 years and that change will continue for some time to come. Eventually, the world wide harmonisation on pharmaceutical subjects such as GCP, GLP and GMP, the needs of members will be best served by having a strong Society allied to its' associated groups so that the initial aims and objectives of the Society can continue to be acheived and the safety and well being of the patient, receiving products manufactured by the technologies affected by the Society under the provisions of regulatory authorities with whom the Society has considerable professional influence, will remain the over-whelming objective of the individuals making up the membership of the Society.
Role for the Future

The Society has moved forward from formation to establishment. From its achievements to date it has increased in profile and stature as an influential body, in which a discussion platform for the legislated and legislator is provided. The Society will increasingly become a force in policy-making decisions.
